Atlantic University Sport Women's Basketball Awards Announced

February 28, 2008 (HALIFAX, NS) - Atlantic University Sport is pleased to announce the 2007-08 women's basketball conference major awards as selected by the eight head coaches.

MOST VALUABLE PLAYER: Katherine Quackenbush, Memorial
- 5th year (Halifax, NS)
- Second consecutive MVP award, 1st team all-Canadian in 2006-07.
- 1st team conference all-star in each of her 3 years at Memorial.
- 15.1 points / game (5th AUS)
- 3.45 assists / game (3rd AUS)
- 2.30 steals / game (2nd AUS)
- 88.9 FT % (2nd AUS)
- 48.9 FG % (7th AUS)
- No AUS player has ever been named CIS women's basketball player of the year.

ROOKIE OF THE YEAR: Emma Duinker, Acadia
- 1st year, Forward (Cambridge, NS)
- Named to all-rookie team
- 8.5 points / game
- 4.7 rebounds / game
- 36.4 FG %
- Only three players have ever been named CIS Rookie of the Year (1991-92 - Theresa McCuish, StFX; 1993-94 - Carolyn Wares, Dalhousie; 1999-00 - Julie Galipeau, Saint Mary's)

COACH OF THE YEAR: Doug Partridge, Memorial
- Guided Memorial to 17-3 first place record
- Named AUS Coach of the Year in 1994-95, 2002-03 and 2003-04
- Named CIS Coach of the Year in 2002-03

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Katherine Quackenbush, Memorial

- Katherine was also the Defensive Player of the Year in 2006-07.
- No AUS player has ever been named CIS women's basketball Defensive Player of the Year.

SYLVIA SWEENEY AWARD: Kate McNeil, Dalhousie
- 4th year (Halifax, NS)
- Awarded for outstanding achievement in basketball, academics and community involvement.

TRACY MACLEOD AWARD: Brianne Ozimok, Acadia
- 2nd year (Midhurst, ON)
- Awarded for determination, perseverence and unwaivering spirit to continue playing the game of basketball.
