2009-10 Season Outlook
This year's men's track and field team features a great blend of key
returning athletes and a solid contingent of rookies and will be looking
to defend last year's AUS championship.
Last year's team placed tenth at the CIS championships with eight top
ten individual finishes and was led by fifth year veteran and AUS MVP
Ueli Albert, who has since graduated.
Leading this year's Tigers is AUS Rookie of the Year, Simon Watts
(Halifax, NS) who has already met the CIS championship high jump standard
as a member of the Canadian national junior team. Last year's AUS Championship
MVP Rob McCulloch (Glammis, ON), is back with the Tigers and looking
to better his fifth (high jump) and tenth place (pentathlon) CIS finishes.
Russell Christie (Petrolia, ON) will be a strong contender in the
3000m event after an AUS MVP season with the cross country Tigers.
Anthony Bernard (Alberton, PE) returns for the long jump and 300m events
after a solid outdoor season.
Other returning Tigers include middle distance runners Dan Gorman
(Halifax, NS) and Matt Reddy (Sarnia, ON) who will set the pace in
the 1500m and 600m events respectively. Sprinters Matt Bartley (Amherst,
NS), Michael Bawol (Moncton, NB) and Luke Demetre (New Glasgow, NS)
will also look to make great strides for the Tigers.
A powerful group of rookies will be led by Geoff Myatt (Sydney, NS),
the 2009 Canada Summer Games discus champion and Randy Henley (New
Glasgow, NS), the 2009 NSSAF 400m champion.
2008 AUS 60m champion Alex Hanssen (Halifax, NS) and pentathlete Steve
Fox (Caledonia, ON) will look to make an impact after returning from
injuries.
